They Don’t Make ‘Em Like They Used To
Join me in the time machine as we travel back to 1994 for this incredible Gateway PC commercial. Balancing out the uncomfortable vibe of the initial father-daughter conversation with the uplifting triumph of the walk into the light at the end takes real artistry.
Enjoy:

lolwut?! Was that really run on TV? Seems more like something made for a conference or business meeting.
My favorite part: “mini”

I love the electric guitar bit during the whitebox montage.

I love the dramatic shift where he walks into the light at the 1 minute mark.

OMG, that’s hilarious.
Do you have a copy of the follow up ad that shows how his daughter used her Gateway to create one of the most popular and lucrative pornographic web cam sites? After she turned 18 of course.
I happen to love Gateway though. I still have a perfectly running Gateway 366 from 1998 that runs XP with 384 MBs of RAM (max). It’s in a closet but it stills runs just fine.
I also have an emachine (yes emachine) that is actually a great computer and owned by Gateway.
Someday when I grow up, I’d like to own a Mac but I can buy 4 desktop computers for the price of a Mac (even though I can’t afford 4 desktop computers)) that can do just about anything that a Mac can except be portable, more reliable, safer, more fun to use and with better graphics.
I’m hoping that the switch to Fedora from Windows will bring me somewhere in the middle.
