Help Wanted: What’s the Next Awesome Thing?

I’m kicking around ideas for a project that shall currently remain nameless, and need a bit of your help. Yes, your help.

Specifically, what’s the next awesome thing? For example, at one point ninjas were frequently used as shorthand for awesomeness but are now a bit passé (even if they’re still pretty awesome).

With that in mind, I’m trying to figure out what the next thing will be. Please leave your awesome ideas (as many as you want) in the comments section. Thanks!

Just wanted to share a few links (mostly Mozilla design stuff) that have been populating my tabs lately:

* Alex Faaborg talks about refreshing the Firefox icon…like all his posts, it’s extremely thought-provoking. The comments are interesting, too.

* Looking back a bit, Mary Colvig reports that last year’s amazing Download Day campaign has won a People’s Voice Webby! Great news for a project that was a career highlight for all of us who were a part of it.

* Looking back a bit more, Asa Dotzler has resurrected the classic Hack artwork as a desktop wallpaper.

* David Boswell continues his series of updates on the mozilla.org redesign…so great to see how they’ve involved the community in every step of the process.

* A Kansas information architect named Sean Tevis has created a bit of an online stir this week with his innovative and generally awesome methods for using the web to create a grassroots movement. Check it out because a) his tactics remind me a lot of Mozilla, and include ideas we can learn from, b) there’s a browser reference right at the top of the page and c) cool cartoons!

I realized the other night that I recently passed an interesting (note: interesting to me only) personal milestone: the two-year anniversary of my Delicious account.

From my initial tagging of an Arkansas Razorbacks news site to my most recent tagging of a book about vintage WPA-era posters, Delicious has been an amazing repository of every little twist and turn of my web surfing. At 1,269 links (and counting) I haven’t yet become a true Delicious jedi (see: pkim), but I’ve saved enough stuff that at this point my account functions as a backup brain of sorts. That comes in very handy.

Anyway, it’s made me a more effective web surfer and is truly one of my favorite things about the Internet. Thanks Delicious!
